We’ve Been Where You Are
Before we ever opened a set of books for a client, we were running our own businesses — and doing our own bookkeeping.
Our Story
The Audit Shop didn’t start with a textbook. It started with real Kentucky small businesses that needed their books kept straight while their owners were busy actually running the business.
Our founder is a Certified Bookkeeper and QuickBooks ProAdvisor who has owned and operated multiple small businesses in Kentucky. That means the bank feeds don’t reconcile themselves, payroll has to go out on time, and a messy set of books isn’t a hypothetical problem — it’s one we’ve had to fix on our own companies before we ever fixed it for anyone else’s.
That hands-on experience is why we built The Audit Shop around QuickBooks and Manager.io — tools we actually use day to day, not just certifications on a wall. We know what “good enough” bookkeeping costs a business down the road, and we know what it looks like to have books that are actually ready when tax time, a loan application, or a hard year shows up.
Now we use that experience to keep other Kentucky small business owners’ books clean, current, and useful — so they can make decisions with real numbers instead of guesses.
What We Do Differently
We’ve Been the Business Owner
We know what it’s like to get a surprise tax bill because the books were a mess, or to not know if a slow month was actually a problem. We keep that from happening to you.
We Adapt to Your Business
A contractor’s books don’t look like a retail shop’s books. We set up your chart of accounts and workflow around how your business actually operates.
We Keep It Simple
No jargon, no upsells, no surprises. We explain your numbers in plain English and charge fair, predictable prices.
Why QuickBooks & Manager.io?
After working with multiple small businesses across different industries, these are the platforms we trust. Here’s why:
You Own Your Data
Your books live in your own QuickBooks or Manager.io account. If you ever want to take your books elsewhere, you can — it’s your data.
It Can Do Almost Anything
Invoicing, payroll, inventory tracking, job costing, multi-entity reporting — all handled without duct-taping together five different tools.
It’s Not Going Anywhere
QuickBooks is the accounting standard most CPAs, lenders, and the IRS already work with — so your books stay compatible wherever you need them.
You’re Never Locked In
If you ever need a CPA, a loan officer, or a new bookkeeper, they’ll know exactly how to work with your books. No proprietary system to untangle.
Who We Help
We work with small businesses that need clean, current books without hiring a full-time bookkeeper or accounting department.
If you’re running a business and your books need attention, we can probably help.
And if we’re not the right fit, we’ll tell you.
Based in Lexington, Kentucky
We’re local. When you call, you talk to the person who actually does your bookkeeping — not a ticket queue on the other side of the country.
Ready to talk?
We’ll give you honest advice about what your books need — even if that means telling you they’re already in good shape.
